Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data we process, why, and your rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
1. Controller

2. What we collect
- Account identifiers — a unique user ID created when you open the app (including anonymous / guest sessions).
- Profile — optional display name, Italian level, interests, daily listening goal.
- Learning activity — listening position, completed episodes, saved words and review schedule, word lookups, habit stats (minutes, streak-related fields, XP).
- Local preferences on your device — e.g. appearance theme, player English-line toggle, onboarding completion flag (stored on device).
We do not require your email or phone number to start using the app today.
3. Why we process data (purposes & legal bases)
- Provide the learning service (resume episodes, vocabulary review, personalization) — performance of a contract / steps prior to a contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)), and legitimate interests in running a functional app (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Secure and operate infrastructure — legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Respond to support / privacy requests — legal obligation and legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(c), (f)).
4. Processors & third parties
We use service providers who process data on our instructions:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and file storage for the app backend.
- AI content providers (e.g. Anthropic, ElevenLabs) — used to generate catalog episode scripts and audio in our production pipeline. They are not used as an open chatbot of your private conversations inside the learner app.
We do not currently use third-party advertising SDKs or third-party analytics SDKs in the app. If that changes, we will update this policy and store disclosures.
5. AI-generated content
Sybaris episodes are generated with AI (script and voice) and curated for learning. They are not recordings of live conversations. This transparency notice is provided in line with EU AI Act goals for clear information about AI-generated audio and text used in the product.
6. Retention & deletion
We keep your account and learning data while your account exists so the app can sync your progress. You can delete your account and associated personal data at any time in the app: More → Delete account & data.
Deletion removes your authentication account and cascaded learning records (profile, listening state, saved words, lookups, habit days). Some technical logs may persist for a limited time for security and operations, then be deleted or anonymized.
7. Your rights (GDPR)
If you are in the EU/EEA (or otherwise covered by GDPR), you may have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Rectify inaccurate data
- Erase data (“right to be forgotten”)
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Data portability (where applicable)
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Germany, your competent Landesbeauftragte / BfDI)

8. Children
Sybaris is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International transfers
Our processors may store or process data in the EU and/or other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) offered by those providers.
10. Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Material changes will be reflected on this page and, where appropriate, in the app.
